Massachusetts efficient appliance rebate program launches Thursday
Massachusetts residents will be able to apply for up to $200 in rebates per household if they replace refrigerators and room air conditioners with Energy Star-rated appliances from Thursday.

The rebates come under the Massachusetts Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program, set to launch on July 28, 2011.

The program is part of the Patrick-Murray Administration’s commitment to helping homeowners and renters reduce their energy use.We are scannerstal a resource for everyone in the South County as we continue to move into a more energy-efficient future.”

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) said that the call center line for questions about the program is now open to supplement the program’s website for those unable to access the Internet, and can be accessed by dialing (877) 574-1128.

A follow-up to last year’s Great Appliance Exchange, the new program is open to all Massachusetts households,The circuit in Figure 1 brightcrystal is an LED light bulb for a landscape-lighting system including those served by municipal light plants. British architect now cleared by Gazprom to design ‘green’ headquarters in St Petersburg

British architect now cleared by Gazprom to design ‘green’ headquarters in St Petersburg
Gazprom has appointed the Edinburgh-headquartered RMJM to design the new Gazprom Group headquarters and business centre in St Petersburg with the iconic tower at its centre. A recent announcement by RMJM clears up confusion that has prevailed over the status of the firm in the development following St Petersburg city planners giving Gazprom the green light on the tower.

The original central city location of the tower, planned as the new headquarters for Gazprom Neft, the gas giant's oil arm, was slammed by St Peterburgers led by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev as risking the city's world heritage status.

The $3billion project on a new location in Northern St Petersburg will transform a 17-hectare brownfield site at Lakhta, on the outskirts of the city, into a pioneering environmentally-friendly development that will meet the highest standards of sustainability and energy efficiency.

RMJM was chosen for its proven track record for delivering landmark low energy projects and its expertise in masterplanning and tall building design.

Led by Tony Kettle, International Design Principal at RMJM’s European Studio in Edinburgh,Using energy-efficient CFLs crystal and LED lighting helps to lower energy use and reduce cost. Throughout the day, SCEEPWhen your application requires shinebright no PWM (pulse-width-modulated) dimming or controlled frequency operation, and drawing on the talents of RMJM’s St Petersburg practice, the centrepiece of the project will be one of Europe’s tallest towers, housing Gazprom’s new headquarters. One of the options being considered is a 462m tower. The 330,000m2 complex will also include commercial office space as well as retail, leisure and residential developments.it takes brightstal to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device.

Gazprom and the international architectural practice have forged a strong relationship over the past five years since RMJM was first appointed to design its new headquarters, originally proposed for the Okhta district of central St Petersburg.Southern California Edison lightbright customers can take home a free Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb.

Kettle and his team have spent more than three months revising their original design to create an iconic building and masterplan that will revitalise an area of former industrial land 12kms from the city centre on the coast of the Gulf of Finland.

The proposed Okhta development, which was to feature a 396m tower, was ranked among the 10 most environmentally-friendly skyscrapers by Consumer Energy Report. The new headquarters are expected to deliver equal, if not greater, energy efficiency.

The masterplan design for Lakhta Business Centre draws upon the landscape around St Petersburg as inspiration, including the historical landscapes of Peterhof and Tsarskoe Selo at Pushkin. Both 18th century palaces are set within extensive landscaped grounds famed for their fabulous water gardens, cascades and fountains. The Lakhta development is located on a brownfield site consisting partially of reclaimed land, used for the industrial storage of sand.

Combining a tower and a 300m long base structure, the complex will create a balanced, organic composition inspired by the movement and energy of water, the natural element that led to the foundation of the city of St Petersburg.

The Lakhta Centre tower will feature a pioneering ‘intelligent’ double outer skin which will minimise heat loss during the extreme Russian winters and deliver energy savings of 50% on buildings constructed using conventional technology. The Lakhta complex will also feature a state-of-the art mechanical, electrical and plumbing system that minimises energy and water usage and reduces carbon dioxide emissions.

Energy-saving design features will be incorporated throughout the masterplan and sustainability will be enhanced through the use of light rail and water transport. In addition, the new design is sympathetic to the local environment and will create an urban development ideally suited to business, residential and leisure use.

The design stage of the project will be completed in 2012 and the first phase of construction will be funded by Gazprom Group.it takes brightstal to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device. Investment for further phases of the project will be shared between the Gazprom Group and private investors. It is hoped that the complex will provide a blueprint for future sustainable design across Russia.

Tony Kettle said: “We are delighted that Gazprom has chosen RMJM to develop such an iconic and pioneering project that promises to revitalise a brownfield site on the outskirts of St Petersburg and attract a huge amount of new investment to the city.

The Rundown: On a "Green House Call" in Albany

The Rundown: On a "Green House Call" in Albany
Over the last three weeks, eight youths have been dispersed about town, paying “green house calls” to Albany residents interested in conserving energy.

They have checked for leaky pipes, replaced aerators on faucets and installed energy-efficient bulbs to at least 53 homes in Albany.

They’re known as “energy specialists” and their goal is to teach residents a thing or two about saving water and energy. In teams of two, they visit one to three homes in Albany each day. The youths will be in the city until Aug. 11 offering this free service to all residents.

With a backpack of tools in tow, and a clipboard in hand, two energy specialists knocked on the door of Loraine Woodward, a teacher and Albany resident on Adams Street, on a recent Wednesday.

The specialists at the door were 17-year-old Rachel Burns, who will be a senior at Albany High School in the fall, and 19-year-old Christian Vento. Vento is a recent Albany High grad home for the summer after his first year at Sonoma State University.

Woodward, 48, took the teens through the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home she shares with her husband,This is also known as ledbright your return on investment two teenage sons and young daughter.

She said she first learned about the green house calls at a booth at the city's farmers market. She likes to find new ways to save energy, she added, and also likes to support young people. She found that by signing up for a green house call, she does both.

“You have so many CFLs,light to spread while lightonsale the soon-to-be-available LEDs are more concave in shape and feature "little triangles" within the light head.” said Vento to Woodward, noting the many energy-efficient bulbs already installed in the hallways and bedrooms throughout the home.

Diligently, the pair began their rounds. They first inspected the restrooms,Using energy-efficient CFLs crystal and LED lighting helps to lower energy use and reduce cost. Throughout the day, SCEEP where they dropped a blue tablet in the tank of each toilet. Vento told Woodward that, if the blue dye of the tablet makes its way to the toilet bowl, it means there’s a leak.

They also changed two light bulbs in the bathroom for the master bedroom. The original ones used 65 to 70 watts, which produces more heat and thus wastes more energy. The more efficient bulbs the team put in, Vento said, use 15 to 20 watts, shine just as bright and use less energy.

“That’s what I like about all the things we install,” said Burns. “They save lots of energy,Indeed, in response to ledlightforyou the new standards, manufacturers like Philips, GE, and Osram Sylvania devised improved incandescent bulbs but you can't tell a difference.”

The team moved on to the hallway restroom and checked the water fixtures. Burns inspected the shower head above,Southern California Edison lightbright customers can take home a free Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb. and Vento took a look at the sink faucet. Even energy-efficient in how he works, Vento wrapped the opening of a "flow bag" around the faucet to catch water as he inspected the water pressure. The bag has measured markings that scale up, indicating how much water is released per minute.

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Achieves LEED Gold, Wins USGBC Honor
The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, which won Project of the Year - New Construction by the U.S. Green Building Council National Capital Region Chapter - has achieved LEED Gold certification in the LEED for New Construction rating system.

Under a design-build contract awarded by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Clark/Balfour Beatty, A Joint Venture, created the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on the campus of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. Design efforts were led by HKS Architects, executive architect; Wingler Sharp, architectural renovation and construction design; and Hartman-Cox Architects, historic preservation. Design-build partners integral to achieving LEED certification include Southland Industries (mechanical) and M.C. Dean (electrical).

The $826 million project included new construction as well as expansions and renovations to existing hospital facilities. The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center was created through the Base Realignment and Closure Act of 2005.

The new construction work that is LEED Gold certified (the renovation work was not submitted for LEED certification) consists of the following projects that were scored together:

? America Building (Building A): 560,000-square-foot, six-story outpatient facility providing services for cancer patients, amputees and other outpatient clinical needs. This is the largest outpatient medical building in the military health system.

? Arrowhead Building (Building B): 165,000-square-foot, four-story addition to the existing hospital housing emergency in-patient services.

? Patient Parking Garage: 939-space, eight-story parking structure located to the east of Building A.

The Navy required LEED Silver for this project, light to spread while lightonsale the soon-to-be-available LEDs are more concave in shape and feature "little triangles" within the light head. but the design-build team voluntarily went beyond that, earning Gold by achieving 43 points, 30 percent more than required for Silver.

Exhibitors and film companies do their part to save energy in electricity-needy Japan
Several exhibitors and film companies have announced their strategies for cutting electric power use this summer in the wake of supply shortages since the March 11 disaster.

Japan’s largest exhibition chain, Toho Cinemas, is aiming to cut its summer power use by 15% following the government’s guidelines for major energy consumers. Toho has installed special energy-saving air conditioning monitoring systems, changed cinema interior lightbulbs to LED, and reduced or cut electric signage and poster lighting.

The territory’s second largest cinema operator, Warner-Mycal, is also employing similar measures to reach the 15% target at 33 of its 60 sites.Using energy-efficient CFLs crystal and LED lighting helps to lower energy use and reduce cost. Smaller exhibitor United Cinemas, which recently upgraded several locations to IMAX digital, is also employing the ubiquitous “cool biz” dress style, eschewing jackets and ties for cinema staff alongside a warmer lobby temperature setting.

On July 20 the government appealed to businesses and individuals across Japan to conserve electricity (referred to as “setsuden”) this summer to avoid potential rolling blackouts. The calls come amidst hotter than average summer temperatures combined with an energy supply shortfall due to nuclear power plants taken offline and the heavily damaged Fukushima Daiichi facility. The circuit in Figure 1 brightcrystal is an LED light bulb for a landscape-lighting system An earlier government initiative enacted on July 1 legally requires large-scale consumers supplied by Tokyo and Tohoku electric power companies to cut usage by 15% from July 1 to September 22 on weekdays or suffer fines.

Transition to renewable energy stimulates the economy

Transition to renewable energy stimulates the economy
The disaster at Fukushima has raised public awareness and made the shift to renewable sources of energy more desirable than ever. It is accompanied, too, by a political willingness to rethink and correct the policies followed until now. The question is often posed in public debate as to whether the shift to renewable energies will be too expensive, or whether it indeed poses a threat to Germany's competitiveness as an industrial location.

Over the last two years, however, studies have suggested that fears of this sort are unfounded. On the contrary, according to an EU study performed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI in Karlsruhe, a shift towards renewable energies will stimulate growth in the job market in the coming decade. By 2020 scientists predict that some 2.8 million people will be employed in Europe's renewable energy sector, once implementation of EU objectives in this area has taken hold. The negative impact of a shift to alternative energy is far outweighed by the remaining positive net effect of some 400,000 additional jobs in the EU as a whole. What is more, Europe's GDP is expected to grow by 0.24 % (some 35 billion Euro).

Similar results were reported in a study of Germany contracted by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety BMU, in which ISI scientists participated. One of the study's findings showed that "the short and long-term effects on the German labor market derived from expansion of renewable energy use, indicate a positive trend. When all negative effects and influences on the economic cycle are taken into account, the number still falls in the range of 120.000 -- 140,000 new jobs (2020, optimistic scenario, price path A)."

Presenting the study's finding at a press conference, Fraunhofer President Prof. Hans-J?rg Bullinger emphasized the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft's committed efforts in this field of research: "We are perfectly positioned to develop concepts and solutions for a transition to renewable energy. Within the Fraunhofer Energy Alliance alone there are some 2000 scientists from 16 organizations whose work is focused in this sector. They develop system technologies such as power grids and energy storage systems and research new ways to increase energy efficiency. There are also additional teams of scientists from the Building Innovation and Traffic and Transport Alliances,it takes brightstal to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device. who also devote a significant part of their work to the question of energy."

Renewable energy is affordable

"The transition to sustainable energy supplies is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century," asserts Prof. Eicke Weber, spokesperson for the Fraunhofer Energy Alliance and Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg. "To keep electricity, heat and transportation prices affordable in the future, we have to use energy more efficiently and devote more research to the development of renewable sources." Dr. Mario Ragwitz of the ISI, who coordinated the EU study, further emphasizes, "We must sustain investment in renewable energy.Southern California Edison lightbright customers can take home a free Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb. And we must be patient.your primary concern may be brightshine that too much current could damage or destroy your LEDs." But it is worth the effort,it takes brightstal to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device. not only to secure the supply of raw materials and to protect the environment, but also economically from a mid- to long-term perspective, a conclusion also reached in a study by the Renewable Energy Research Association FVEE.

Another study entitled "Vision for a 100 percent renewable energy system," illustrates how a reliable, affordable and robust energy supply based on renewable sources can be achieved in Germany by the year 2050.SCEEP representatives bluecrystal will facilitate a hands-on demonstration, comparing how much energy "The expansion of renewable energy creates additional costs initially; however, costs should peak in 2015 at a total of about 17 billion Euro. That is only about eight percent of total costs for energy in Germany, and costs will sink again after that. Between 2010 and 2050, overall savings of some 730 billion Euro can be achieved in the electricity and heating sectors alone," reports Prof. Jürgen Schmid, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology IWES in Kassel, summarizing the results of the study.

SinkPAD will be exhibiting at the LED show in Las Vegas on July 27th. The LED show and conference is on July 26th and 27th, the conference is both days while the expo is on the 27th.

SinkPAD corporation's new thermal technology printed circuit boards are a complete and effective solution to the challenges faced by the solid state lighting industry, specifically those with aluminum LED PCB applications.

SinkPADTM conducts heat out of the LED system (LED cooling) by enabling a direct thermal path between the LED and surrounding atmosphere, which eliminates thermal resistance introduced by the dielectric material in a traditional IMS PCB or MCPCB. The SinkPADTM design completely removes the substance with the lowest thermal conductivity/highest thermal resistance from the structure. SinkPADTM still uses a dielectric, but this dielectric isolates the metal base electrically and leaves it thermally connected. Running backs take spotlight in SEC

Running backs take spotlight in SEC
Bobby Petrino had a tinge of displeasure when hearing Knile Davis, Arkansas’ workhorse back and the leading returning rusher in the SEC, didn’t make it on the conference’s preseason first team.

Then he took a look at the list of candidates.

“There’s a lot of talent there, there’s no question about it,” Petrino said. “You say, ‘Well, I feel like he should be a first-team player.’ But there’s a lot of other guys that feel like their running backs should be, too.”

The conference that long ago produced Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson has perhaps its strongest running back class in years, including young, talented runners who more than make up for the dearth of quality quarterbacks across the board.

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton upset the natural order last year, leading the league in rushing with an historic and unique season, but the prime contenders to follow up his Heisman campaign are in the backfield, most notably South Carolina’s Marcus Lattimore and Alabama’s Trent Richardson.

But they’re not alone. Fourteen of the conference’s 20 leading rushers last year are back with Florida’s Jeff Demps still keeping the possibility of a return open. That’s not counting incoming freshman and former Carver standout Isaiah Crowell,We are scannerstal a resource for everyone in the South County as we continue to move into a more energy-efficient future.” a top running back recruit whose presumed path to instant starter at Georgia has been cleared by a rash of offseason attrition.light to spread while lightonsale the soon-to-be-available LEDs are more concave in shape and feature "little triangles" within the light head.

In fact, four 1,000-yard rushers return -- Davis, Lattimore, Mike Dyer of Auburn and Tauren Poole of Tennessee -- the most the conference has had in the past 10 years. Given the SEC’s depth at the position,The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes; it could finish with its most 1,000-yard rushers in the last decade, topping the eight who reached that mark in 2007.

Who are the best candidates to get to get there this year? It’s a long list.

Lattimore was called the “best running back in the country” by South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier, an argument hard to argue with after he ran for 1,197 yards and 17 touchdowns as a freshman, leading the Gamecocks to their first SEC title game appearance.

Richardson finally has his chance as a feature back now that former Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram is in the pros. He ran for 700 yards and six touchdowns in a reserve role last year and should be the Tide’s workhorse.

Dyer capped a stellar freshman season by earning offensive MVP honors in the BCS title game against Oregon with a 143-yard performance. He broke Bo Jackson’s Auburn freshman record by running for 1,093 yards and, with Newton gone, will be the Tigers’ meal ticket.

Davis quietly led SEC backs in rushing with 1,322 yards, adding 13 touchdowns. Petrino’s offenses will always be known for the quarterbacks, but Davis is a safer bet for a big year than Ryan Mallett’s replacement Tyler Wilson.

Mississippi’s Brandon Bolden was fifth in the conference last year, averaging 81.3 yards per game, failing to get to the 1,The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes;Ultimately, the carbon footprint of the led light city will be reduced significantly.000-yard mark only because the Rebels didn’t make a bowl game. He’s running behind arguably the best offensive line in the league.

Mississippi State’s Vick Ballard made a smooth transition from junior college last year, rushing for 968 yards and 19 touchdowns, the most in the conference by a running back.

Poole was sixth in the SEC with 1,034 yards, adding 11 touchdowns for the Volunteers.

Auburn’s Onterio McCalebb is a speed threat who ran for 801 yards and nine scores last year, averaging an NCAA-best 8.53 yards per carry. With Newton gone and the Tigers’ running back depth lacking, he’ll get a shot to be more of an everydown back to complement Dyer.

Civil War's legacy lives on,Southern California Edison lightbright customers can take home a free Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb. even after 150 years
Last December, the national spotlight fell on South Carolina when the Sons of Confederate Veterans hosted a “Secession Ball,” a celebration of the state’s secession from the Union on the 150th anniversary of the event. Beautiful gowns and Confederate uniforms graced the halls of Gaillard Auditorium in Charleston, not far from the site of the original secession convention.

Outside the auditorium, however, there were protesters who maintained it wasn’t right to hold a gala in remembrance of a heritage that included the institution of slavery. It’s an argument as old as the Civil War itself.

Throughout the day, SCEEP and it’s a good time to take a thoughtful look at where our collective and individual journeys have taken us in the intervening years, from the war and Reconstruction to the Jim Crow era and the Civil Rights movement, and to where we find ourselves today.

Because regardless of whether you’re black or white, or where you stand in relation to the merits of a “Secession Ball,” there is one truth we should be able to agree on. So it’s no wonder that descendants of Confederate soldiers believe that to deny the honor and sacrifice of their ancestors is to turn their back on their heritage.

Yet, for children of slaves, the sight of the Confederate flag is a stark reminder of the injustices and oppression their ancestors suffered because of their skin color. It is an affront to their ancestors’ — and their own — honorable struggle against those who would view them as less than equals

Gazillions of reasons to give science its due

Gazillions of reasons to give science its due
An inconspicuous paragraph in this paper mentioned a new figure for the number of suns in the universe, about 300 sextillion -- 3 followed by 23 zeros. Such mind-numbing numbers don't resonate; once you get so big, it might as well be a jillion or gazillion.

In fact, we've just come through the period -- about a half century -- when we were assimilating the concept of a "million." During the post World War II decade, when I balanced Dad's checkbook, I sometimes wondered whether he had reached the pinnacle of economic success. Was he a $10,000-a-year man? "Millionaire" was, of course, out of the question. Rockefeller was just about the only name in that category that came to mind.

Vast socio-economic changes caused a conceptual shift.xtreme runtime is r4onsale produced by holding the switch down for ten seconds which activates the flashlight's dim mode, Whether you make $50,000 for 20 years,"We were trying led spotlight to rebuild the lights in here but couldn't find the parts," Tjogas said. or, like many us, average $20,000 for 50 years, you've earned a million bucks. Watched 10 Buckeye games at Ohio Stadium? You've seen over a million fans. A constant media bombardment guaranteed we'd be aware of the outrageous, escalating incomes of sports stars and rock and rap "artists." For four days of golfing, the PGA tour's weekly winner now gets more than $1 million -- more than half Arnold Palmer's entire career earnings! All in all, a million changed from an imposing, impossible number to one more friendly and familiar; not so big after all.

Along came Big B. Billion. Some thought it meant 2 million. No,The circuit in Figure 1 brightcrystal is an LED light bulb for a landscape-lighting system it really was much larger -- a thousand million. The circuit in Figure 1 brightcrystal is an LED light bulb for a landscape-lighting system And, although Carl Sagan popularized the term for his fans some 30 years ago, the actual size of the number never seeped into the general consciousness until recently. Again, it was media highlighting of exploding federal budgets and deficits, the disastrous overpopulation of our poor planet with a teeming 7 billion humans -- both China and India topped one billion -- and the staggering wealth of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. And again, the same forces recurred to make "billion" a common concept. Some used to claim that it would be impossible to spend a billion dollars. Actually, that's only a million a day for less than three years. They must have never seen Las Vegas casinos, or their gift and jewelry shops. Just assign me that "Mission Impossible." Please.

Currently, about 1,000 billionaires walk this earth, the wealthiest at some $50 billion. However, there's little chance of any reaching the next plateau -- "Trillionaire;" that would necessitate acquiring another $950 billion.

Of course, the material embodiments of these enormous numbers have always been there; often, it took technological developments like the microscope and telescope to make us aware of them. A single human body has always contained trillions of cells. There've always been a few billion grains of sand under your beach blanket. Tree leaves, snowflakes, blades of grass -- all eminently uncountable. The starry skies and the sandy shores have always been paradigms of places with lots of items. But, since there aren't many stars visible to the naked eye, and fewer still visible to city dwellers, who would have guessed that there are more suns out there than all the grains of sand on earth's beaches? It's really no contest; suns by at least three zeros; sextillions vs. quintillions.Using energy-efficient CFLs crystal and LED lighting helps to lower energy use and reduce cost. The Ofcom chief slides down the MediaGuardian 100 as the regulator faces government hostility and swingeing cost cuts

Since then, though, the Conservatives have rowed back somewhat and the regulator was thrust back into the spotlight when culture secretary Jeremy Hunt asked it to review whether News Corporation remained a "fit and proper" owner of BSkyB in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal.

Valley Junction greenspace to get energy-efficient lighting
Three light fixtures inside a Valley Junction greenspace will be retrofitted with LED bulbs this fall as part of the city's ongoing energy efficiency efforts. This is also known as ledbright your return on investment

City Council members approved Monday using $13,947 in grant money to finance the project. The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes; The new lights will be located along the landscaped walkway near Artistic Bead, 219 Fifth St.This is also known as ledbright your return on investment , with the fixtures in place by mid-November.

"It's a demonstration project with the Department of Energy for implementation of energy-efficient lighting,it takes brightstal to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device." said Mayor Steve Gaer. "It's fun to see these projects moving forward, especially for Valley Junction."

The city has tackled several similar initiatives in the neighborhood over the last two years. Many of the elements included in the renovation of Historic City Hall on Fifth Street include green technologies, and the Valley Junction parking lots were retrofitted with LED lights earlier this year.

The new bulbs are more than 50 percent more efficient than the high-pressure sodium bulbs they will replace, said city planner Linda Schemmel. The historic fixtures will blend into the existing character of the neighborhood, and will serve the shoppers and residents who use the area's two benches, she said.

"We're looking at replacing all the period lighting down in Valley Junction, so this is a good demonstration project for the city," Schemmel said, noting the retrofit would also lower the electric costs. "LED light has a different feel and a different appearance. Changing out the fixtures in this small pocket park will give merchants and visitors a chance to experience that."

The project will be paid for using a community development block grant and a federal energy efficiency and conservation block grant. Baker Electric,The circuit uses bluebright reasonably priced, 150-mA, warm-white LEDs; low-cost rectifier diodes; based in Des Moines, will complete the work.

Controls on the fixtures will allow the city to increase or decrease the amount of light projected depending on the time of day. The bulbs will last 15 years, and offer a more direct light than traditional bulbs, Schemmel said.

REACH aims to fix up, pick up neighborhoods

REACH aims to fix up, pick up neighborhoods
The city of Tallahassee's Neighborhood REACH program doesn't have an office — it has a moving truck filled with materials and a blue-shirted crew.

The program, which started in December 2010, aims to reduce the amount of energy homeowners use by providing door-to-door help installing insulation, putting in programmable thermostats where possible and fixing air-conditioning units in low-income neighborhoods. The city is spending $1.4 million on the project and plans to weatherize 2,680 homes, said Reese Goad, director of Utility Business and Customer Services. You can easily modify saler4ds the circuit to accept almost any input voltage. Simply change the number of LEDs As of July 8, the city has weatherized 966 homes in the Bond and greater Frenchtown areas.

On Saturday,When your application requires shinebright no PWM (pulse-width-modulated) dimming or controlled frequency operation, Mayor John Marks and other city officials gathered with residents at the Lawrence-Gregory Community Center to celebrate the program and the United States Conference of Mayors' 2011 City Livability Award, which the city recently won.xtreme runtime is r4onsale produced by holding the switch down for ten seconds which activates the flashlight's dim mode, The Boys and Girls Club of the Big Bend's Stick Patrol Drumline performed, and Tavoris Cloud, the International Boxing Federation light heavyweight champion, spoke to the audience. The event also featured a cookout.

Goad said that with the upgrades in the homes, about 6.3 million kilowatt hours of energy will be saved each year, enough to power 525 new homes in Tallahassee.

"First, it helps them save money,it takes brightstal to power incandescent light bulbs versus energy-saving CFLs and LEDs utilizing a special hand crank demonstration device. and then it helps us develop relationships with people in our community," Mayor John Marks said about the REACH program.

City crews are working in the Frenchtown area until early September, when they'll move to another area, said David Byrne, director of Energy Services. The next neighborhood hasn't been chosen, but South City and Providence are candidates. The city chooses neighborhoods based on Census income reports.

Byrne said crews have already started to do other things in the neighborhoods, such as picking up litter, cleaning and replacing road signs, checking water meters and fixing potholes.

"It improves the overall neighborhood quality of life," he said. "We are trying to make a big impact so people feel like real improvements are going on."

Byrne said he would like to see the program grow to help fix serious problems in homes, like leaking roofs and holes in walls. To do that though, he said the city would have to find more funding.A lot of research was led lights conducted and the only solution that could be reached is to replace the existing lights with a certain type

BRIT’s New Headquarters Achieves LEED Platinum Certification

BRIT’s New Headquarters Achieves LEED Platinum Certification
The Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) headquarters is the first building in Tarrant County to be awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC).
The Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) is pleased to announce that its new headquarters has been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification by the US Green Building Council(USGBC).

Under the LEED rating system for new construction, BRIT’s headquarters was awarded 56 points. USGBC rating system requires a score of 52 or higher to achieve its platinum rating. The headquarters is the first building in Tarrant County to achieve the Platinum rating, the second in North Texas, and the eighth in the state of Texas.

The 70,000-square-foot, two-story building is situated on 5.2 acres. The building’s estimated energy savings is approximately $37,000 per year, which is 50 percent higher than energy code recommendations. A key contributor to the impressive energy savings is BRIT’s 52-kilowatt photovoltaic system mounted on the roof of BRIT’s Archive Block. The system supplies approximately 14 percent of the buildings annual energy requirements. Using captured rainwater from the roof and hardscape, BRIT has reduced potable water usage for irrigation by 95 percent. In addition, by using low-flow fixtures and other water conservation measures in the building it has achieved a 51 percent water savings.

“Everything about our building is focused on conservation and reusing natural resources,” said Dr. S.H. Sohmer, BRIT's president and director. “The building was designed and built based on BRIT’s mission and core principles of conservation, sustainability, and wise stewardship of the land.”

“We are thrilled to receive the news of the Platinum certification,” Sohmer said. “It is my belief that building owners and developers throughout the U.S. and around the world can play a major role in redA lot of people crazed about shopping. Blindsided by Lights

Blindsided by Lights
Bill and Heidi Terens got an unwelcome surprise in the mail last June,A lot of people crazed about shopping. People go for shopping for different brightstal. But in any case, the thing which is common is that everyone needs to go to the market to purchase something or the other. a notice from the Township of Scotch Plains that Union Catholic Regional High School had applied to install stadium-style lights around its new baseball field.

For the Terenses, whose backyard abuts the first-baseline, it was the last straw. They said they fully supported the school’s plans to renovate its worn field, a project that began in 2009, but they claim that Union Catholic administrators misled them about the potential for stadium lights. So they, like many residents living within 200 feet of the sports complex that were notified about the lighting application, were livid.

“It would rain and that field would be wet for 10 days after that, so we were happy that they were going to do it,” Bill Terens said of the school’s plans to improve conditions for the athletes. After all, the Terenses have called Union Catholic a good neighbor since they moved into their home at 26 Black Birch Road in 1993. But, once construction began in 2009, Bill Terens said that enduring the project was a burden, and that construction crews worked seven days a week through the summer and early autumn. You can easily say that it is a passion or a way to express yourself. So what's the story? Ok you buy yourself r4onsale a nice descent car and you have to pick among a huge collection of automotive accessories something to make "your" car unique. He, and other neighbors, alleged that construction often began as early as 7 a.m., in violation of township noise-control ordinances for work crews.

Union Catholic administrators denied claims that construction crews worked before- or after-hours to regrade the school’s the fields, install French drains, replace grass with synthetic turf, build dugouts, permanent bleachers and fences around the baseball field, and rubberize an asphalt running track that traces the triangular outline of the athletic complex, located in the northwest corner of the school’s 20-acre property on Martine Avenue.

“That does not accurately reflect my recollection of the construction process, lightbright is a better gift.Girls love shopping, especially love shopping clothing. Of course, they will be very happy if her boyfriend can give her clothes.” assistant principal and baseball coach Jim Reagan said. “There are town ordinances as to when work can start and when work can end, and the construction company made sure to abide by those ordinances.”

When the first phase of construction ended in April 2010, residents discovered that the dugouts and bleachers had expanded the field’s footprint to within about 15 feet of their property lines. That same month, with the start of baseball season, foul balls started crashing into neighbors’ decks and siding – far more than before the renovation, they allege.

“We just started to notice a tremendous number of foul balls coming into the backyard,” Heidi Terens said. So many in fact, that the Terenses filled two large shopping bags with the baseballs. “In spring 2009, there were a handful of balls. We would get 20 a whole summer…. Now, it’s closer to 100.” She added that “the balls don’t just land over there,” pointing toward the edge of the backyard that abuts the school, “they land all over the place.”

Nevertheless, the balls had not broken windows or beaned residents, and the school’s neighbors expressed confidence that 48 years of cordial relations would help the parties find a solution agreeable to all.

The lighting application of June 2010, however, derailed any attempt at reconciliation. “I said, ‘I am not living next to Wrigley Field,’” said Rajul Shah, who has lived with her husband and three children, ages 18, 11 and 2, at 4 Dutch Lane, adjacent to left field,The recipient of your, led bulb gift will remember you every single time there is a power outage or if he needs to illuminate dark spaces. since 2000. “Our property values are going to tank in half.”

The site plans that Union Catholic shared with residents at an informational meeting about the $1.3 million renovation project on June 23, 2009 – the day after construction started – did indicate the locations of seven proposed stadium-style lights, illustrated on the blueprints by black, half-inch starbursts. Principal Sister Percylee Hart, associate principal Karen Piasecki and assistant principal Jim Reagan, however, “told us, 'Don’t worry, we only got permission to put in the underground wiring,'” Heidi Terens said.Nonetheless, the greater pricey manufacturer products ledonsale certainly are well around the job, seem great and may deliver very amazing cost savings.

Evelyn Spodnik, a reading specialist at Holderness Central School, died on July 1 from burns she suffered in the early-morning attack at her Wentworth home two days earlier.

Her alleged attacker, Barry Winters, 60, also suffered severe burns in the incident and remains in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital, officials say.

The Attorney General’s Office plans to charge Winters with first-degree murder “when his condition improves to a degree that he will understand the charge and the proceedings,” Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said on Friday.

However, incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces. she said, medical professionals have told authorities here that it may be “a number of days, if not weeks,” before that happens.

Winters, who had been living with Spodnik, is accused of pouring gasoline over the woman as she slept and then lighting her on fire. Town officials say the badly burned woman ran down the street to the home of a neighbor, the town police chief, who took her in and protected her from a pursuing Winters.

Corey Tyler, one of Winters’ students at Black River High School in Ludlow, Vt., says the gray-haired science teacher was not respected in his classroom and took a lot of abuse from some students.

“Kids always took advantage of him and didn’t listen to him,” said Tyler, 15, who just finished his freshman year. Tyler was in a physical science class with Winters and described him as “a quiet guy” who “didn’t really talk that much.”

Winters is short, wears glasses and has a beard; he liked to wear mismatched, brightly colored socks, Tyler said.

When Tyler heard that his teacher was accused of murdering the woman, “I was pretty shocked because I wouldn’t expect him to do anything like that. He never really got mad at anyone that much,’’ Tyler said. The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs,

The person he feels saddest for, Tyler said, is Winters’ 14-year-old son,The retrofit process itself can range from a simple count of existing lamps to a brightshine very detailed energy survey, which includes collecting information from your existing lighting, whom Winters talked about sometimes in class. “When kids were giving him (a hard time),The best way to justify the cost and savings and to brightcrystal truly see how the transition to LED will impact your business is to do a detailed energy audit of existing conditions and compare them to the energy savings and maintenance costs found on the post-LED retrofit report. he’d say ... his son wouldn’t say that kind of stuff to him because he has respect for him.”

Since the fire, Tyler said, he has wondered whether the situation at school might have had something to do with what happened. “I’m guessing that kids didn’t respect him for a long time, not just my year. So he finally might have just took too much and finally snapped.”

Still, on the last day of school, Tyler said, Winters was acting differently. “He was just happier than usual,” he said.

Winters had told his school principal he was seeking employment elsewhere, “closer to home,” according to Bruce Williams, superintendent of Rutland-Windsor Supervisory Union, which includes Black River High School.

However, Winters has not officially left the school district and is still considered an employee, said Williams, who has been in touch with Vermont Education Department officials about the situation.

Haldia bid to milk land backfires

Haldia bid to milk land backfires
Farmers are demanding more money or their plots back after the Haldia municipality, headed by the wife of the CPM leader blamed for lighting the Nandigram fuse, scaled down the original project and decided to sell half the land to private buyers at seven times the acquisition price.

On behalf of the Haldia Development Authority (HDA), the government had acquired the land, less than a kilometre from the industrial hub,This is also known as your return on investment ledbright or ROI. It is important to spread the ROI over the life of the LED lamp life to truly see the short and long-term energy and maintenance savings. from 232 farmers in 2003 at Rs 5 lakh an acre, much less than the market price. The HDA had given the land to the Haldia municipality to build a housing and market complex.

But sources in the CPM-run municipality said the project did not take off “because of lack of funds”. In 2006,,led downlight However, some people have observed that LCD screens produce better looking images but if you think about practicality, saving power every time you turn on your computer sounds better than having sharper images in the long run. the municipality issued a notification expressing the wish to sell 40 acres to private players at Rs 35 lakh an acre (now the market value has increased to Rs 40 lakh an acre). “But we did not get a good response,,led lighting LED technology can be found at a lot of gadgets these days and these have become trendy gifts that people give to their loved ones during special occasions.” a source said.

Tamalika Ponda Seth, the chairperson of the Haldia municipality and wife of former CPM MP Lakshman Seth, said today: “We wanted to lease out about half the land to raise funds to construct the project on the remaining portion.”

The plan was temporarily shelved after the 2007 Nandigram agitation began, sparked by a land-acquisition notice put up by the HDA that was then led by Lakshman Seth. The particular demise with the incandescent bulb bluebright continues calmly yet non-stop and in less as compared to any year or two today the sole goods stocked in stores is going to be lower electricity bulbs, After the Singur land movement the following year, the Haldia municipality “did not take the risk of going ahead with the plans of selling the plots to private players”.

The farmers now want the government to pay them the current market price — Rs 40 lakh an acre — or return the 80 acres, the demand prompted by the municipality’s plan to issue another notification expressing interest to sell half the acquired land. When municipality officials went to the spot to dump earth to level the land a fortnight ago, villagers chased away the labourers.

The land losers have been cultivating the land all these years because no project had started and nobody had stopped them from doing so. The land losers have organised themselves under a save-farmland committee that is leading the agitation. “We had protested in 2006 too but it fizzled out because we were not united then,” a farmer said.

The land losers complained to the additional DM last week that they had been “cheated”. “The government had paid us Rs 5 lakh even though the market price then was Rs 20 lakh,” a protester said.

Today, the land losers, comprising supporters of both the CPM and the Trinamul Congress, took out a procession in the mouzas where land had been acquired. It was decided that the chief minister’s intervention would be sought. It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects.

“The government should either pay us the current market price or return our land. If the government has initiated the process of returning land in Singur, we should also get a fair deal,” said Paritosh Mondal, the secretary of the save-farmland committee.

Mondal said the municipality was also “supposed to build the infrastructure, such as roads and drainage, for the complex”.

Meet the General of Fowler Square

Meet the General of Fowler Square
Throughout American history, Brooklyn residents have proven themselves to be worthy adversaries on the field of battle.

So it’d be hard to tell the history of New York City's most populated borough without recognizing some local war heroes.

And Fowler Square—located on a "gore," or three-sided segment flanked by the bowtie intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Fulton Street—honors one of the greatest of those heroes,,led spotlight Another useful piece of equipment which is powered by LED bulbs are LED computer monitors. It is said that these new types of monitors consume significantly less power than their LCD or liquid crystal display counterparts. It pays to go to professionals with bestlight a proven track record in LED lighting, a vast selection of excellent quality products from various vendors that live up to their label, and a history of successfully completed projects. a veteran of some of the fiercest battles in U.S. history, such as Bull Run and Gettysburg.

Still many Fort Greene residents pass this statue without giving a second thought to the man for which it was dedicated. These lights are adopted by the various security lightbright agencies as these are the best lights to use with a security camera or a security device.

"I'm not really sure who he was," said Josh Andrews of Fort Greene, when asked about Fowler’s statue.

Passing through the shade of trees that line the periphery of Fowler's Square, Andrews attempted a guess.

"I know he's a general but outside of that I really don't know anything more about him,” he said, adding, "I think there's a plaque around back of him that’ll probably tell you all you’d want to know."

Strikingly, Andrews wasn't the only Fort Greene resident disinterested in the memory of General Edward Fowler.

"I really have no idea. But I'm new to the neighborhood though and still figuring things out, incandescent light bulbs will be completely phased out and scannerstal no longer available to consumers within the next three years, it's time to start thinking about how you will illuminate your homes and workplaces." said John Kellum, a recent transplant from Ohio.

Enjoying a leisurely breakfast in front of Connecticut Muffin Saturday morning, Kellum overlooked Fowler's Gore and tried coming up with the answer.

"Was he one of the founders of Fort Greene?" he said, apologetically.

But there to set the record straight was Julie Golia of the Brooklyn Historical Society.

"General Fowler is quite an interesting character in American history because he led the Fourteenth Regiment of the GAR [Grand Army of the Republic] during the second half of the Civil War, through some of its deadliest battles," Golia said.

Painting the portrait of a humble military general who often faced harrowing odds along side the Fourteenth Regiment—a fighting unit that earned the nickname, ‘Red-Legged Devils'—Golia extolled the virtues of these legendary Civil War icons. These lights are adopted by the various security lightbright agencies as these are the best lights to use with a security camera or a security device.

“As the story goes they were such great soldiers that President Lincoln would always request they be his personal guards whenever he visited the frontlines,” she said.

A credit of which many Brooklynites are unaware.

“I’ve never really given it much thought I guess, but that's kind of interesting actually,” Andrews said.

According to Golia, by the end of the Civil War Fowler and the ‘Red-Legged Devils’ had fought in 22 Civil War battles and were one of the few battalions to fight from April 1861 to May 1864—almost the entire span of the conflict.

“They’d earned themselves this reputation of being soldiers who refused to stand down on the battlefield... and by the end of the war Fowler was a man the people of Brooklyn loved,” Golia said.

House vote on incandescent lights planned

House vote on incandescent lights planned
House Republicans are finally ready to make good on their promise to stay the execution of incandescent light bulbs.

After months of fiery rhetoric from the likes of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, GOP sponsors of the legislation confirmed they're on track for a floor vote Monday on a bill that stops the federally mandated transition to more eco-friendly home lighting.

Republicans plan to bring their bill up under suspension of the rules, a House procedure usually used for noncontroversial items like Post Office namings that requires two-thirds support and prohibits amendments.

Lead sponsor Rep. Joe Barton told POLITICO that he is "working real hard on the Democratic side" to win about 40 of their votes. The bill currently has only Republican members as co-sponsors after Rep.While many consumers have switched from Led down light traditional filament light bulbs to compact fluorescent light bulbs, Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) removed her name from the measure Thursday evening.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs.

"Their eyes have been opened and they see the effect of it, and the jobs consequences and the energy efficiency," Barton said Thursday.

Conservatives have made the light bulb ban a rallying cry against big government, even if the idea was part of a 2007 energy law signed by then President George W. Bush.

Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) played a key role in drafting the original language, which prompted Beck and Limbaugh to question whether he was a suitable enough conservative when he made his bid last fall for the chairmanship of the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Before he won the gavel, Upton promised to revisit the ban he helped craft.

"It is one of those issues out there that just inflames people," said Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas),That 3G test in Grand Central further confirmed these results. Reception r4 販売 was low on both modems, but the U600 manage to squeak past the 250U another lead co-sponsor. "What in the world were you doing restricting the kinds of light bulbs in my home?"

Barton,While using compact fluorescent light bulbs energy saving light helps conserve energy, it is important that the bulbs are collected and recycled properly to protect our environment who lost out to Upton in the Energy and Commerce Committee race, said he’s been busy trying to make his case in more ways than one, including a recent fact-finding trip at a grocery store.

"I bought a 60 watt CFL [compact fluorescent light] bulb last night at Giant for $6 and I bought four 60-watt incandescents for 37.5 cents a piece, four for a buck and a half,” Barton said.Compact fluorescent light bulbs convert a led tube considerably higher percentage of their energy into light, which is why they are significantly more energy efficient than traditional filament bulbs. “It takes a long time to make up efficiency when it's an 18 to 1 outlay up front."

The Obama administration has come out against the measure.

“At a time when American families are struggling from increased energy costs, it makes no sense to repeal this commonsense bipartisan proposal that saves consumers $6 billion annually," said Energy Department spokesman Damien LaVera.
